Thanks for the help

I would suggest the, "Fender SE Special Strat with Squier SP-10 Amp Value Pack".

This one costs $20 more but also comes with a case, stand, cord and tuner which you are going to want to have and if bought separately will cost more than an extra $20.

The other package comes with some kind of Rock Band thing which I'm assuming has something to do with the video game which may provide some basic instruction on how to play which is nice, but with the internet at your fingertips - I find that un-necessary. Plenty of "how-to's" on YouTube.

Whatever you decide to buy (and I can't stress this enough) you will want to have your guitar "set-up". What is this? you ask. Just like we have to give our cars a "tune-up" for them to function properly, from time to time we have to have our guitars "set-up". This goes beyond simply tuning the strings. It's a series of fine adjustments to the neck, nut, bridge and saddles. Without this your guitar (even the most expensive ones in the world) can be physically uncomfortable or difficult to play such as the strings being too high off the fretboard. And no matter how perfect you tune it....it still sounds out of tune and it's really not you....it's the guitar in need of these fine adjustments called a "set-up".

When I first started playing I would get so frustrated with my guitar because of these things. I started to think my guitar was crap or that maybe I just plain sucked. But then some one explained to me the importance of a "set-up" and actually set mine up for me.....and WOW!
It was like night and day! It was like my guitar had been touched by God himself and given the power to almost play itself (ok maybe that's a bit too dramatic)

Unfortunately even brand new guitars don't come "out of the box" perfectly set-up and ready to go so you will probably have to pay to have this done unless you know someone who can do this for you.
But even if you wanna get that guitar home and start playing right away without one you'll still have lots of fun. And when you finally do have it set-up you'll understand what I'm talking about all the more.

Have fun with your 1st guitar and rock-on!
