Can I plug a 4 ohm head into an 8 ohm cabinet (with two jack inputs) without it damaging either?
I've just bought a 75 watt amp head which says (just below the two jack outs) Class 2 Wiring, 4 ohm minimum (for the cabinet I guess). The cabinet I have says 200watts RMS at 8 ohms and has two jack inputs.
Will they work together without either of them blowing up?
If the 8 ohm cabinet has two jack inputs on the back, and the head had two input jacks on the back (minimum 4 ohm) If I put both jacks from the back of the head into the two on the back of the cabinet would that work?
The gear is:
Line 6 Spider II HD75 head with the words minimum 4 ohms printed under two inputs/outputs
Hughes and Kettner Warp 7 Halfstack Cabinet 200watt RMS at 8 ohms with two inputs/outputs
The old head I had (H&K Warp 7 head) has two inputs/outputs on the back that have:
Speakers outs
100 watts
4-8 ohms
(Don't know if that info helps at all)
Thanks to anyone who posts as I'm really confused about this
Yes it's ok. The 4 ohm minimum on the back of the amp is the load rating, just don't go lower than 4 ohms. If you're using an 8 ohm cabinet then your fine on that. You only need to run 1 speaker cable from the amp to the cabinet, the other jack on the amp is for a second cabinet connection. The second jack on the cabinet is for running another cabinet connected from it. If you connect more cabinets then it will change the load rating (ohms) of the speaker loads. Your amp is 75 watts and cabinet is 200 watts, that's fine there too. The 200 watt rating on the cabinet means it can handle up to 200 watts of power from the amp. The 75 watt output on the amp means it puts out 75 watts of power at full power (all the knobs turned up to 10 or 11 whichever your amp has lol).
