Bears trading first round picks is not as bad as people make it seem?

I hear all kinds of people talking about how the Bears gave up way too much in giving up 2 first round picks for Cutler. I think they are over-reacting because if you look at Jerry Angelo's history drafting, First round picks are not his strong point. Those 2 first round picks could have very well turned into another Rex Grossman and Michael Haynes. I would much rather them trade the picks for a stud QB then draft 2 more busts. Besides, Angelo is great at getting studs in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th rounds. Just look at guys like Lance Briggs, Alex Brown, Mark Anderson, Nate Vasher, and so on. I think draft picks are often overrated because they are a lottery, never a sure thing.

I completely agree that first round draft picks are over-rated.

Look at the last decade of first round picks by the Bears:
'08- Curtis Williams-OT (Back up, signed Orlando Pace for this spot)
'07- Greg Olsen-TE (good pick),
'06-NONE,
'05-Cedric Benson-RB (BUST),
'04-Tommy Harris-DT (Pro Bowler),
'03-Michael Haynes-DE(BUST),
'02-Mark Colombo-OT (some solid years, not spectacular),
'01-David Terrell-WR (BUST),
'00-Brian Urlacher-LB (Pro Bowler),
'99-Cade McNown-QB (BUST),
'98-Curtis Enis-RB (BUST)...

It's not like a first rounder is a sure thing. The Bears have had 7 of the their last 11 first round picks been busts or non-existent. Look at any team in the league, you'll find similar results. I don't think two 1st rounders and a 3rd rounder is too much at all...

Listen to Denver's Last 11 first Rounders: R.Clady, J.Moss, J.Cutler, None, D.Williams, G.Foster, A.Lelie, W.Middlebroks, D.Oneal, A.Wilson. How many of them are familiar to you? 4 or 5? Heck, only 3 of them are still on the Denver's Roster.

First round draft picks are not instant gold like a lot of people seem to think.
